Roles and
Responsibilities:
In addition to developing manufacturing equipment and processes, the Manufacturing Engineer works with cross-functional teams throughout the entire lifecycle of the product. He/She works closely with Design Engineering, Quality, Production, and Sustaining to take the assemblies from initial design through prototype development and into full production.
Equipment Development and Implementation
In-house development of manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early stage prototype builds
Design and realization of manufacturing equipment and fixtures for medium and high volume production
Management of suppliers during specification, design, buyoff and installation of manufacturing equipment
Characterization and validation of new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor
Process Development and Implementation
Development of new manufacturing processes
Creation of detailed Manufacturing Instructions to support new processes and equipment
Layout of production workstations for product flow, ergonomics and efficiency
Specification of hand tools for assembly tasks
Performance of process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing and capacity modeling
Deployment of statistics control on key processes and profile validation
Implementation of product traceability and shop floor tracking
Training to technicians and line operators
Providing of DFM (Design for Manufacturability) to design team for process and yield improvement

Skills and
Experience:
Proficiency in mechanical assembly (press fits, adhesive bonding, fastener selection)
Experience with mechanical-electrical/mechatronic systems
Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
Experience creating process documentation
Experience transitioning products from prototype to production
Experience introducing new products and new processes into a production environment
Experience with design for manufacturability
Experience with design for automation
Experience with programming PLCs is a plus
Experience with designing the layout of a production line in AutoCAD
Proficiency designing mechanical equipment, fixturing and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks preferred, Catia is a plus)
Proficiency creating detailed drawings from solid models for various fabrication techniques (CNC/manual machining, welding, sheet metal forming)
Experience deploying CFM (Continuous Flow Manufacturing), lean manufacturing and statistic control on high volume production
Knowledgeable about production quality metrics is a plus
Experience working with ESD sensitive components is a plus
Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines
Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
Well organized with meticulous attention to detail
Mastery of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio
Qualifications:
BS/MS Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
5
years of experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems.
